A rather unusual sight greeted those walking between the White House and the Capitol along Pennsylvania Avenue Saturday as race cars screamed down the road.

Organizers say more the 50,000 fans showed up for the planned Formula One Red Bull Showrun.

The event featured former Red Bull Racing driver and winner of 13 Formula One Grand Prix, David Coulthard, driving the RB7 car, down Washington's road of political power.

“The best part of the Red Bull Showrun is being able to bring Formula One to some fans that have already seen it, but more importantly to fans who have never seen it before,” said Coulthard. “Pennsylvania Avenue from the cockpit looked wonderful and it’s been a great privilege to drive the F1 car down this iconic street.”
