Georgia linebacker Davin Bellamy had a simple message for his teammates before their hurricane-delayed game at South Carolina on Sunday.

“Everyone in there has aspirations of playing on Sundays,” he said. “It’s Sunday — it’s time to play ball.”

Nick Chubb ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns and Sony Michel had 133 yards as the Bulldogs beat the Gamecocks, 28-14, and ended a two-game losing streak.

Chubb ran for 18 yards on the first play from scrimmage and ended the series with a 15-yard score to give the Bulldogs (4-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) a lead they would not surrender.

“I think that got everyone going, the whole team,” Chubb said.

South Carolina (2-4, 1-4) came in next to last in the S.E.C. at stopping the run.

“We knew they were going to come out and run the ball,” South Carolina linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams said. “We couldn’t stop them.”

WORTH THE WAIT Hasaan Klugh threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, Kalif Phillips rushed for 132 yards, and Charlotte won at Florida Atlantic, 28-23, for the 49ers’ first Conference USA victory in a game that was pushed back because of Hurricane Matthew.

Charlotte (2-4, 1-1) nearly gave the game away in the end. Florida Atlantic (1-5, 0-2) recovered a fumble with 40 seconds left, and Jason Driskel found Kamrin Solomon in the end zone for an apparent touchdown, but Solomon was ruled out of bounds after a replay.

Jimmie Johnson ended a career-worst 24-race losing streak at Charlotte Motor Speedway and reached the third round of the Nascar Chase for the Sprint Cup championship for the first time.

With his victory in the Bank of America 500, Johnson also thrust himself into contention for the title by securing a spot in the round of eight drivers.

Johnson, a six-time Nascar champion, had struggled with the Chase’s elimination format since it began in 2014. He was eliminated in the second round of the inaugural year and in the first round last season.

ROSBERG BUMPS HIS LEAD The Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg capitalized on a slow start by his teammate Lewis Hamilton to win the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka and widen his lead in the Formula One drivers’ championship.

Rosberg started first and controlled the race to finish 4.9 seconds ahead of the Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. Hamilton was third.

Rosberg extended his lead over Hamilton, the defending world champion, to 33 points with four races remaining.

CROWD CRASH One spectator was killed and several others were seriously injured after a car veered into the crowd during a rally event in the Republic of San Marino.

Top-seeded Andy Murray defeated Grigor Dimitrov to win the China Open in Beijing, his first victory in the tournament in three tries.

Murray, who defeated Dimitrov, 6-4, 7-6 (2), looked to have the match won when he was serving at 5-4 in the second set. But Dimitrov broke Murray’s serve and held his own to force the tiebreaker.

On the women’s side, the No. 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska handily defeated Johanna Konta, 6-4, 6-2, to win her third title of the year.

BIG BREAKS IN JAPAN Nick Kyrgios rallied to defeat David Goffin, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, for his third title of the year at the Japan Open in Tokyo.

Marcel Granollers and Marcin Matkowski beat second-seeded Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram, 6-2, 7-6 (4), in the doubles final.

Ha Na Jang of South Korea fended off a rally by Shanshan Feng of China to win by a stroke in wind and rain at the Fubon L.P.G.A. Taiwan Championship for her third victory of the year.

Jang, who had shot a 62 for the lowest round of her career in the third round, was eight strokes ahead of Feng after a birdie on the sixth hole but bogeyed two of her next three en route to a one-under-par 71. Feng chipped in for birdie from 35 feet on the 15th to cut Jang’s lead to two strokes and nearly sank a bunker shot for eagle on the 18th.

Gareth Bale scored in the 10th minute, but 137th-ranked Georgia rallied for a 1-1 draw against host Wales in a Group D qualifying match for the 2018 World Cup.

Wales is in third in the group, 2 points off the lead after Serbia beat visiting Austria, 3-2, and Ireland won at Moldova, 3-1, after James McClean scored two goals in the final 21 minutes.

A ROUGH ROAD Kosovo lost to Ukraine, 3-0, in a Group I match staged in Krakow, Poland, because the government of Ukraine does not recognize Kosovo’s independence.

TWO TITANS WIN Italy needed an injury-time goal by Ciro Immobile to win at Macedonia, 3-2, and remain tied atop Group G with Spain, which won 2-0 at Albania.

FLASH WIN WOMEN’S TITLE Sabrina D’Angelo made three saves in a shootout as the Western New York Flash beast the Washington Spirit on penalties to win the National Women’s Soccer League championship in Houston.
