Akshay Bhatia is back as he tries to defend his 2024 Valero Texas Open win when he nearly edged out Denny McCarthy in a one-hole playoff. Bhatia and McCarthy lapped the rest of the field, finishing 20-under for the tournament. Rory McIlroy, who finished third, was nine strokes behind them.

Ludvig Aberg has been playing some solid golf recently and enters Thursday as the slight favorite. Aberg is currently fifth in the Official World Golf Rankings. He will have plenty of other competition, including Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Tommy Fleetwood, and Hideki Matsuyama.

Fan favorite Rickie Fowler will also be there this week. He is looking to have a better showing than last year, when he was cut after shooting four over par through two rounds.
