Kenya Moore has twirled for the last time on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. But why did she leave Bravo and could she ever come back?
Kenya, the 1993 Miss USA and the second Black woman to hold the title, joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta in Season 5 in 2012. She starred on the series—and its spinoff, The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip—on and off for 10 seasons until she was dramatically suspended in Season 16. But what happened behind the scenes?
TMZ reported in June 2024 that Kenya was not fired from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but both she and Bravo agreed that she would take a break from the show after she was suspended for allegedly showing sexually explicit posters of cast member Britt Eady performing oral sex, according to TMZ.
While the decision was mutual and Bravo is open to Kenya returning in the future, TMZ reported Kenya was considering legal action against Bravo because of how her exit unfolded. As for what happened, TMZ reported that Kenya and Britt’s feud escalated after Britt allegedly threatened her with a gun. A source told TMZ that Bravo investigated the gun claim, however, it was never substantiated by the network. Sources also told TMZ that a gun was never present during filming.
After the gun incident, Kenya allegedly showed nude posters of Britt at the opening for her salon, Kenya Moore Hair Spa, which wasn’t at. After an investigation, Bravo found that Kenya’s behavior was a violation of their code of conduct. Still, sources told TMZ that Kenya felt wronged by Bravo, with the two mainly disagreeing over the gun claim and Kenya’s safety.
After news of her suspension, Kenya shared an Instagram video in which she cryptically addresed the situation. “I stay winning. It is in my blood. Success matriculates around me. So I accept that. God has given me that,” she said. “You will be seeing me.” She continued, “I’m not going anywhere despite all the stuff surrounding whatever it is people decided they wanna write.”
Britt, for her part, also slammed Kenya in her own Instagram post accusing her hazing her as a new cast member. “It’s never a good feeling being targeted or HAZED by someone I thought would embrace me into a new circle, that I never met,” she wrote. “For the record, I’ve never once had possession of any weapons or threatened anyone ever. … I am hurt by the narrative that’s being displayed. Wrong is wrong.”
While TMZ reported that Bravo was open for Kenya to come back to The Real Housewives of Atlanta after her exit, a source told Page Six in June 2024 that there have been no conversations about her return. “It was made clear that Kenya wasn’t fired and nothing has been decided in terms of future seasons on the network’s end or Kenya’s,” the insider said.
Sources close to production also denied the claim that Britt threatened Kenya with a gun. “At no time was Kenya ever threatened with a weapon, nor was there ever a weapon present during the course of production,” the insider said.
That said, fans believe that Bravo is setting up Kenya’s return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta after she apologized for the posters in an interview on Tamron Hall in November 2024. “Hindsight is always fifty, fifty,” she said, adding that she was “sorry” for what she did. “If I could do it all over again, I believe the photos were very distasteful, and I elevated the situation. I’ve elevated situations before, and I’ve taken full accountability for the things that I’ve done.” She continued, “I didn’t have to take it that far.”
She went on, “But when I felt threatened, I’ve never had a child in a situation like this before. So, that’s why it escalated to the point where I was protecting not only myself, but my child.”
Kenay also confirmed that she’d “had some conversations” with Andy Cohen, whom she described as a “great support system” throughout her ordeal. “He has called, he has checked on me, he has given me advice. And I feel like he’s a really good friend and I just appreciate the support,” she said. “That was my family for 12 years. I love them and I feel like they love me, it was just a really unfortunate situation.”
It doesn’t look like there will be reconciliation between Kenya and Britt anytime soon, however. In June 2024, an audio clip leaked in which Kenya accused Britt of being an escort. “You a paid hoe. Brittany does escort,” Kenya said in the audio “There’s an IG that put her emails out on blast, she charges $1400 for an appointment. You not only a hoe, you a cheap whore.” She continued, “You on covers of magazines being a thot. … You all of those things, OK?… You over here on Snapchat, Yo Gotti was like, ‘Snapchat me that p–y,’ and you did!”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta streams on Peacock.
